Here we are, the day after the election was called. History has been made. Winter white suits and Converse are the fashion of the day. A call for Unity has been made.
Call me "Cautiously optimistic." I want to jump and yell and scream and dance... but, then I remember it's still 2020.
Allow me a bit of cynicism. Then, I promise to be bright and shiny.
This year has been an absolute piece of work; hence, I find myself cynical. I want to celebrate. I want to be happy. I want to feel relaxed. I want to BELIEVE. But, I’m waiting for the 2020 shoe to drop--2020 and gives me pause.
COVID is still here.
Hatred is still here.
Divisiveness is palpable.
Racism is alive and well.
Refuting science hasn't changed one iota.
Acceptance of blatant lies is still fine.
The Supreme Court is still very lopsided.
Half the country stands in disagreement.
The belief that Socialism is about to swoop from above and ruin their lives remains strong.
Angry chants of voter fraud continue.
The Turtle remains in the Senate, constipating the process, with way too much power and no desire to help anyone but a select few.
And, 45 has yet to concede. He's not likely to do so for...well... ever?
The good news is that there is a chance to right the ship.
That the truth will prevail.
That science will be believed.
That the Earth will matter again.
That Unity will ring true for all of us.
Powers-that-be, I beg 2020 to leave the President Elect and Vice Present Elect alone. The world been through a lot this year. It's time we get a break, don't you think?
I ask that the armed "militia" (and I do use that term lightly) go home.
I pray we that are happy--no gloating, no stooping to the the level ugliness we've seen over the past four years, no name-calling. Just happiness and love of country.
I beg you poop all over that Education lady.
I request you leave the stock market alone.
I beseech you to stop the blame and start the healing.
(If you could get rid of the Turtle, that'd be bonus points.)
Now, for that shiny and happy I promised you.
Allow me to be cautiously optimistic.
Allow me the chance to grin about the Suffragette White.
Allow me a few moments of relief.
I am super-excited that a woman has FINALLY made it to the White House.
(Side note: You do know the Equal Rights Amendment never passed, right? The ERA never passed. Ladies, let's take care of this, once and for all! Put on your winter white and Converse--let's get this done.)
I revel in the fact that big words, the truth and the promise of unity have resurfaced on the National Stage.
I am touched by the focus on country, not on a few individuals.
I am filled with a sense of hope, no matter how cynical I might seem.
I have much hope.
I am giddy with delight that public education will be on the radar again.
We, the People.
We, the People.
We, the People.
Twenty-twenty... behave.
Be gentle.
Be kind.
Be safe.
Be brave.
